Nob Hill Neighborhood Association

Tour of Historic Tony Edaake Murals

Nob Hill Neighborhood Association is partnering with de Anza Motor Lodge manager Jim Trump for an opportunity for neighbors to view the historic 1953 Tony Edaake murals in the lower level at the lodge. This remarkable art is rarely shown. Because of its religious significance visitors must be accompanied by a qualified person to interpret and protect the resource.

Tours will be led by Nob Hilleña Elizabeth Chestnut, President of the Route 66 de Anza Association. She has a lifetime of work in Native American Culture and museum work and has generously offered to lead a tour for Nob Hill residents on June 8, 2022. She will lead groups of ten at 1:30 pm, 2:15 pm, and 3:00 pm. Only the 2:15 tour has openings.

Nob Hill Neighborhood Association will provide refreshments in the DeAnza amenity room above the mural space from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Photographing the murals is strictly prohibited. Every visitor must present proof of vaccination and use a mask in the mural space. There is an elevator to the lower level. We will be happy to arrange other assistance anyone may need. For this exploratory session we ask that visitors be at least 15 years of age. (We normally encourage participation by young people and hope to do that in the future.)

Reservations are necessary and may be secured by emailing meyster1@me.com. A suggested donation of $20 per person will be received at the tour for donation to the Zuni Arts and Crafts Board which is led by Tony Edaake’s grandson Keith.
